Co-Equal
For my BA (HONS) final year project, I created Co-Equal, a design speculation project addressing the misinterpretation of the female body representation in cyberpunk films.
The project features a fully-designed speculative director’s manual based on user research, where it hopes to inspire future filmmakers on possible ways to represent female character in cyberpunk movies.
Research
Workshop was conducted with a female demographic aged 18-35, gathering reactions and opinions on female representations in cyberpunk films. The Future Visions Workshop incorporated several exercises and conversations about the film, Ghost in the Shell. Exploring ways of developing a new image for female characters in cyberpunk movie, with the objective of inspiring film professionals to create equality in characterizations.
Deliverables
Results accumulated from my research was translated into 4 deliverables, a systematic representation of my project’s design statement. A robust identity guideline was developed to enable smooth translation throughout the project. Kickstarting it with a custom logotype, inspired by typeset from various sci-fi movies like Blade Runner, Akira and The Matrix.
